Welcome to Early Years Plus

Induction:
Both Parents and children are involved in the induction process of joining our school community. Firstly, both are invited to a new parents meeting with the Head Teacher, class teacher and the school nurse.

At this meeting, a general welcome to the school is extended and an explanation of the school's ethos and the principles, which underpin its curriculum, is given. The school prospectus and home -school agreement is also distributed.

In addition, parents and children are invited to participate in a number of events that could help them in the process of starting school.

These are :

Adult workshops.
Three adult workshops are provided, one each for literacy, numeracy and Information & Communication technology. Each workshop is aimed at helping parents to use educational resources to help their child with some essential skills necessary for a good start to the school.

Resource Boxes.
Parents are invited to take a resource box home and use the contents to put into practice what they have learnt at the workshop. The resource box is then returned to school once the child starts school.

Settling in sessions.
The new EYP children are invited to the school on a number of separate mornings. Children are encouraged to stay for a couple of hours so that they have the opportunity to get to know their new classroom and the adults who work there. Parents are most welcome to also stay on these occasions if necessary to help to settle their child.
